Find Your College

Choose the College That's Right for You

Did you complete your criteria list from Factors To Consider? Now you should have a list of colleges that you're interested in and you're ready to attend a college fair.

College fairs give you the chance to meet representatives from many schools without traveling far from home. They can tell you about their schools and answer your questions.

You'll find out about campus life, academic programs, financial aid, and admissions requirements.

College fairs usually take place in the early fall and spring.

Be sure to go prepared. Bring your checklist from Factors To Consider. If you're prepared and know which schools meet your criteria, you'll be able to maximize your time talking to those school's representatives at the fair.

  • Bring a notebook, pen, and list of questions. Keep notes about any colleges you speak with.
  • Do research before you go to see what colleges you might be interested in.
  • Pick up a directory to see the list of colleges, booth locations and a schedule of information sessions.
  • If there's a school you know you're interested in, set up a meeting with an admissions representative for the day of the fair.
  • Get brochures from colleges you're interested in. Take them home to review.
  • Sign up to be on the mailing lists at colleges that interest you.
  • Attend information sessions.
  • If you have an in-depth conversation with a college, stay in touch with the representative. Send the person an email to thank them for their time and information.
  • Some questions you may want to ask are:
    • What are the college's strengths?
    • What kind of extra academic help is available?
    • If you are the first in your family to go to college: do you have any programs for students who are the first in their family to go to college?
    • What majors are the most popular?
    • What are the admissions requirements?
    • What scholarships and financial aid are available?
